The MEA launched the modern e‑passport rollout (with embedded RFID‑chip passports) under Passport Seva Programme V2.0 in 2025. 

The Government of India plans to fully implement e-passports by June 2035. All newly issued passports now come with embedded RFID chips under the Passport Seva Programme V2.0, enhancing security and facilitating faster immigration checks for Indian citizens worldwide.
