Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has been at the forefront of numerous developmental initiatives aimed at transforming the state's socio-economic landscape. Under his leadership, Assam has witnessed significant strides in economic growth, education, and infrastructure development. One of the flagship programs introduced is the Orunodoi 3.0 scheme, which focuses on empowering women by providing a monthly financial assistance of Rs. 1,250. This initiative aims to uplift the socio-economic status of women, ensuring they have the means to lead a dignified life. In addition to social welfare programs, Chief Minister Sarma has set ambitious economic targets for the state. He projects that Assam's economy will reach USD 143 billion by 2030, highlighting a significant growth trajectory with a 15.2% GDP increase this year. This optimistic outlook is bolstered by substantial investments, such as the Rs. 270 billion Tata semiconductor facility at Jagiroad, which underscores Assam's potential as a burgeoning industrial hub. To further attract global investments, the state is gearing up for the 'Advantage Assam 2' initiative. This event aims to foster an innovation-friendly ecosystem, streamline bureaucratic processes, and attract investments across sectors like manufacturing, IT, renewable energy, and tourism. Planned roadshows in countries including Bhutan, the UAE, the UK, Malaysia, Thailand, South Korea, Japan, and Singapore are set to position Assam as a global investment destination. Education remains a cornerstone of Chief Minister Sarma's agenda. The government has undertaken multiple initiatives to uplift the education sector, ensuring quality education is accessible to all. Recognizing the importance of social security for government employees, the state has decided to roll back the new pension schemes in favor of implementing the Central government's Unified Pension Scheme starting from April this year. This move aims to provide a more secure and standardized pension system for state employees. In a bid to promote entrepreneurship and self-reliance among the youth, the Mukhyamantrir Atmanirbhar Assam Abhiyan has been launched. Under this program, the first installment of Rs. 75,000 was distributed to 25,238 selected entrepreneurs. This financial support is designed to encourage young entrepreneurs to establish and grow their businesses, contributing to the state's economic development. Chief Minister Sarma's leadership reflects a commitment to inclusive growth, economic prosperity, and the overall well-being of Assam's citizens. His multifaceted approach addresses immediate social needs while laying the foundation for long-term sustainable development.
